Wreaths Across America celebrated Saturday at Carson City's Lone Mountain Cemetery

National Wreaths Across America Day, celebrated at Lone Mountain Cemetery in Carson City on Saturday, Dec. 19, honored veterans by placing wreaths on headstones and markers at over 1,200 locations throughout the U.S. and abroad to those who served our country.

The event was hosted by the Carson City Composite Squadron Civil Air Patrol/USAF Auxiliary.

Carson City Elks Lodge No. 2177 and the Carson City Rotary Club, along with other organizations, helped place the wreaths.

Opening and closing remarks were made by Katherine Baran, CAP. Blessings were given by Pastor Patrick Propster of Calvary Chapel Carson City Christian Fellowship.

LTC Paul Thorne, CAP, lead the pledge of allegiance. Volunteers were honored with the presence of guest speaker, Brigadier General Michael K. Hanifan of Fallon, who gave a wonderful speech. Brigadier Hanifan, who currently serves as the Assistant Adjutant General of the Army Nevada National Guard is also dual-hatted as the Deputy Commanding General of the U.S. Army Intelligence Center at Fort Huachuca. He has received numerous awards.

In the second photo: Participants included Marian Furnari, Mike and Eileen Dugan, John Ryals, Frank Furnari and Marilyn Ryals, Wayne and Sharon Willson, among several others from Carson City Elks, Carson City Rotary and other organizations.
